Marlins reportedly already shopping Yunel Escobar

The shortstop was offered to other organizations even before the Toronto-Miami mega-swap was approved by MLB.

The mega-trade involving the Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins has so many storylines that will probably take a lot of time during the offseason to digest.

We know the blockbuster transaction in which Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and John Buck changed organizations, among many other names, wasn't official until Monday afternoon, when it was finally approved by MLB Commissioner Bud Selig. However, that wasn't an obstacle to the Marlins in order to start shopping the pieces they would get, according to a report.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports tweeted that Miami was shopping shortstop Yunel Escobar even before the swap was official. Escobar will make $5 million in 2013, and the team holds club options on him for both 2014 and 2015. That is certainly a team-friendly contract, but it might be too expensive for the now-frugal Marlins brass.

Escobar hit .253 with 141 hits in 558 plate appearances for the Blue Jays in 2012, with 51 RBIs, 22 doubles and nine homers.
