Marlins, Ryan Raburn could be a match

Raburn struggled in 2012 but has shown some power in the past.

The Detroit Tigers released Ryan Raburn on Tuesday after a season in which he hit only .171/.226/.254 with one home run in 222 plate appearances. Raburn, 31, had hit 45 home runs over the previous three seasons as a part-time player.

The Miami Marlins are thought to be seeking low-risk, high-reward players with power and Raburn could fit into those plans. He is a career .256/.311/.430 hitter with 54 home runs and has played second base, third base and corner outfield in his seven major-league seasons. He has spent his entire career with the Tigers.

Raburn became expendable in Detroit after they acquired Omar Infante to play second base at the trade deadline and signed Torii Hunter earlier this month.

The Marlins could be looking for help at second and third base after trading Infante to the Tigers and Hanley Ramirez to the Dodgers last season.

Raburn made $2.1 million last year.
