No. 19 Memphis vs. Minnesota final score: Gophers topple Tigers in Bahamas

Josh Pastner’s Tigers fall for the second consecutive game, and may find a corresponding rankings drop waiting as a result.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers upset the No. 19 Memphis Tigers 84-75 Friday in the Battle 4 Atlantis consolation bracket in Nassau, Bahamas.

Minnesota (5-1) benefited from a tremendous game from sophomore Andre Hollins, who went off for a staggering 41 points against Memphis (2-2). Hollins was 12-of-16 in shooting from the floor, and went a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc. He also knocked down 12-of-13 free-throw attempts, and scored the last nine points for the Golden Gophers.

Memphis led late on a three-pointer from D.J. Stephens with a little over six minutes remaining, but Minnesota went on a 17-7 run to close the game and down the Tigers. Coach Josh Pastner got double-digit points out of three Tigers in the game, but Memphis fell for the second consecutive outing.

Minnesota has another tough game coming up on Tuesday, when they hit the road to face the Florida St. Seminoles. Memphis returns home to take on the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks on Thursday.
