Team USA's coaching staff for the upcoming World Baseball Classic will feature legendary ex-Atlanta Braves pitcher Greg Maddux as pitching coach on manager Joe Torre's staff, Major League Baseball announced Monday. Maddux is one of six coaches that has been brought on by Torre, who was tabbed as Team USA coach in June.

In addition to Maddux, Torre’s coaching staff will consist of first base coach Dale Murphy, third base coach Willie Randolph, bench coach Larry Bowa, bullpen coach Marcel Lachemann and hitting coach Gerald Perry. The seven men will lead Team USA as it looks to win its first World Baseball Classic since competition began in 2005.

Despite being home to the premier baseball league in the world, the U.S. failed to finish better than fourth in either of the first two World Baseball Classic competitions. Japan has generally dominated so far, defeating Cuba to win the 2005 tournament and South Korea to win the 2009 edition.

This year's Classic will be held from March 2-19 with an expanded participation of 28 teams, an increase of 12 teams from the previous two tournaments. The finals will be held at AT&T Park, home of the World Series champion San Francisco Giants.
