Team USA coaching staff finalized for World Baseball Classic

Joe Torre has put his coaching staff for the March tournament in place.

The coaching staff for Team USA's World Baseball Classic squad was finalized on Monday, per an MLB press release. Manager Joe Torre selected experienced baseball names to the six available positions, among them three former big-league managers and two all-time Braves.

Former Phillies manager Larry Bowa will be Torre's bench coach, former Angels skipper Marcel Lachemann will serve as the bullpen coach, and one-time Mets manager Willie Randolph will be third base coach. Legendary Braves Greg Maddux and Dale Murphy will take up posts as pitching coach and first-base coach, respectively. Gerald Perry -- the long-time hitting coach of the Mariners -- will take up his usual post with the team.

Lachemann is the only coach on the staff with previous experience leading Team USA, having coached the squad for the 2006 World Baseball Classic and 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

The 2013 WBC kicks off in early spring, the first round taking place from the March 2-10. Team USA will begin the tournament in Phoenix, Arizona, in Pool D, where they will take on Mexico, Italy, and one other team yet to be determined.
