Tulsa AD reportedly suspended after FBI identifies him as ‘admitted gambler’

Little more than ten months after being named the new athletic director for the Golden Hurricane, Ross Parmley has been suspended following an admission to the FBI that he was involved with a bookie now under indictment.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane athletic director Ross Parmley was placed on administrative leave with pay following an admission to the FBI that he gambled on football for several years and was involved with a bookie now under federal indictment.

Robby Trammel and Nolan Clay of The Oklahoman report that Parmley told the FBI “he bet on college and professional football games for years before quitting gambling early in 2010.” That timeline would overlap with Parmley’s tenure with the Golden Hurricane, as he is a seven-year veteran of the Tulsa athletic department dating back to 2005.

Parmley’s involvement with Oklahoma City bookmaker Teddy Mitchell could be particularly damning. Mitchell is currently under federal indictment for allegedly running an illegal gambling entity. Parmley has not been charged with a crime.

Tulsa announced Parmley's hiring as athletic director on Jan. 19, after he spent three months as the interim AD. Parmley succeeded Bubba Cunningham, who left Tulsa to become athletic director for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Executive vice president Kevan Buck will step in for Parmley during his suspension.
