The Miami Hurricanes upset the No. 13 Michigan St. Spartans Wednesday night, 67-59, taking the lead early in the second half and fighting off the Spartan attempts to climb back into the game. In contrast, Michigan State took more shots, 59 to 44, but only made 40.7 percent of them, with 6-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc.
Keith Appling led the Spartans in scoring with 15 points. Travis Trice make a return, but he had only nine points on 3-of-6 shooting.
Michigan State next faces the Nicholls St. Colonials and Miami will face the UMass Minutemen, while the ACC-Big Ten Challenge continues with Georgia Tech at Illinois, Boston College at Penn State and Ohio State at Duke.
