After a slow start, the Cincinnati Bearcats rebounded to beat the Syracuse Orange, 35-24, to win a crucial Big East game Saturday at home.

Early on, it looked like an upset might be brewing, as the Orange took a 17-14 lead into halftime and a 24-21 lead early in the third quarter. But in the end, Cincinnati had enough firepower and enough George Winn to seal the victory.

The running back was undoubtedly the star of the day for the Bearcats, and on the afternoon finished with 169 yards and three rushing touchdowns. He also added a touchdown through the air for the Bearcats, which improved to 6-2 on the season after suffering back-to-back losses in the last two weeks.

For Syracuse, it was a disappointing afternoon for the Orange, who fell to 4-5 on the year after winning two straight. Like Cincinnati, the star of the game for Syracuse was running back Jerome Smith, who finished the afternoon with 116 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Ryan Nassib added 286 yards through the air in a losing effort.

Syracuse now must win two of its final three games to be bowl eligible.

Box Score Hero: Could it be anyone other than George Winn? The senior back rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns, and also added another passing touchdown through the air.

Rankings Ramifications: At 6-2, there is a chance that Cincinnati could be ranked when the new polls are released later this weekend.

But Did They Cover? Yes. Cincinnati entered as a five-point favorite, meaning the team was able to cover the spread.
