After weeks of speculation, low-balling and griping about deferred money, the New York Mets have finally come an agreement on a contract extension for third baseman David Wright, according to Ed Coleman of WFAN660 (via CBS Sports).

Including his 2013 salary, Wright will make $138 million over the next eight years.

The 29-year-old has added seven years and $122 million to his existing one-year, $16 million salary, upping his contract to a grand total of eight years and $138 million. No details have emerged yet as to how the money will be distributed over the next eight seasons, but the deal bests left-hander Johan Santana's contract by a mere half million, making Wright the highest-paid player in Mets history.
A six-time All-Star, Wright is a career .301/.381/.506 hitter with 204 home runs in nine seasons with the Mets. The extension should make Wright a Met for life, and allow New York to shift its focus to negotiating an extension with his teammate, 2012 Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey.
An official announcement from the Mets is expected once Wright completes a physical.
