Texans DE J.J. Watt wants to ‘beat as many guys as possible’

Defensive end J.J. Watt of the Houston Texas enjoys being utilized in different ways by Wade Phillips in the defensive scheme.

J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans is an early favorite for Defensive Player of the Year in the NFL this season. What has made the defensive end such a threat is his ability to line up in various spots and match up with different players.

In a radio interview on WSCR in Chicago, Watt said he enjoys “the opportunity to go up against as many guys as possible, and hopefully beat as many guys as possible because it’s kind of like one of those feather-in-your-cap-type deals.”

Along with his 10.5 sacks, Watt has 10 passes defended, using his size and timing to swat balls at the line of scrimmage. Watt said he has been working on jumping passing lanes since college and knows early on during a passing play if going for the swat is the right move.

The Texans will face the Chicago Bears, a stout defense in their own right, this week on the road.
