Rangers reportedly interested in Joakim Soria

The right-hander missed the entire 2012 season, but is looking for opportunities to close ballgames.

The Texas Rangers were decimated by pitching injuries during their 2012 Wild Card run, and general manager Jon Daniels could be looking to add bullpen depth; the club is reportedly interested in free agent closer Joakim Soria.

Soria, who missed the entire 2012 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, has spent his entire major-league career in Kansas City. He has amassed a career 13-15 record with 160 saves, a 2.93 FIP, and 341 strikeouts in 315⅓ innings. Until 2011, he served as the Royals' closer. The team then moved him out of the ninth-inning role due to ineffectiveness. His record for the 2011 season was 5-5 with 28 saves in 60⅓ innings, but he posted a 3.53 FIP, the worst of his career.

Now 28, the right-hander is said to be looking for opportunities to close games out again, though he has said he would be willing to be the set-up man to Yankees closer Mariano Rivera. If the Rangers choose to keep Neftali Feliz as a starter when he recovers from his own Tommy John surgery, Texas could have a spot in the back of its bullpen open for Soria.
