Kevin Kolb placed on injured reserve

On Wednesday, the Arizona Cardinals announced that former starting quarterback Kevin Kolb has been placed on injured reserve. He will not play again during the 2012 season.

USA TODAY Sports

A bad season has gotten worse for the Arizona Cardinals, as on Wednesday, the organization announced via the team's official website that quarterback Kevin Kolb has been placed on injured reserve. With the decision, Kolb's 2012 season is now over.

Kolb suffered a rib injury earlier in the season and has not played since an Oct. 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

For the Cardinals, it is a devastating blow in what has been another highly disappointing season in Arizona. After starting the season 4-0, the Cardinals have now lost nine straight, including last Sunday's embarrassing 58-0 defeat to the Seahawks in Seattle. In that game, Arizona committed eight turnovers, including four interceptions thrown by Kolb's backup, John Skelton.

The move also brings an end to what was once a promising beginning of the season for Kolb.

Kolb was the starting quarterback in all four of Arizona’s wins this season, with the last victory for both the quarterback and organization coming back on Sept. 30 against Miami.

Kolb finishes his 2012 season with eight touchdowns passes and 1,169 yards.
