On Sunday President Barack Obama visited Newtown, Conn., the site of the horrific mass murder on Friday that left 20 children and six educators dead at Sandy Hill Elementary School. On the whiteboard in a room at Newtown High School, football coach Steve George wrote a message thanking Obama for visiting the town and leading its people through adversity.

It is small, touching moments like this that give us faith in each other and in us together as a nation. This weekend amid the incredible grief and despair in Newtown, there were probably 200,000 of these moments. I’m glad we got a peek at one.
