On the road, No. 20 Michigan State Spartans struggled to pull away from Bowling Green until late in the second half, but the team escaped the Stroh Center with a 64-53 win.

US PRESSWIRE

Behind strong guard play, the No. 20 Michigan State Spartans earned their first road win of the young season as Tom Izzo's team defeated Chauncey Orr and the Bowling Green Falcons by the score of 64-53 at the Stroh Center Tuesday night.

The Spartans struggled to pull away from the Falcons in the first half, entering halftime with a slim five-point lead on the road. That lead disappeared early in the second half when Bowling Green came out of the locker room with strong defensive intensity, holding Michigan State scoreless for more than four minutes.

Michigan State rallied back, however, to reclaim the lead and extend it to double digits with five minutes remaining in the second half. It was smooth sailing from there until triple zeros appeared on the clock as the Falcons did not threaten again.

Denzel Valentine and Branden Dawson led Michigan State to the win as the two guards combined for 22 points. Dawson added seven rebounds.
