Stanford’s David Shaw earns ‘long-term’ contract extension

On Wednesday, Stanford announced that head football coach David Shaw had been given a long-term extension at the school. Shaw is 22-4 in two seasons as coach at the school.

US PRESSWIRE

On Wednesday, Stanford University announced that they have agreed to a long-term extension with head football coach David Shaw.

The school released a statement from both President John Hennessy and Shaw himself. Here are some Hennessy’s comments via the release:

“David Shaw has led the football program to great success,” said Hennessy. “He embodies the goal we have for our scholar-athletes--success in the classroom and on the field. We are pleased that he will lead our football program for years to come.”

In just two short seasons as head coach at Stanford, Shaw has quickly established himself as not only one of the top coaches in the Pac-12, but all of college football.

In 2011 Shaw inherited a talented team led by future No. 1 NFL Draft pick Andrew Luck and took the Cardinal to an 11-2 record and Fiesta Bowl appearance. Shaw's 2012 season was even more impressive, as Stanford lost Luck, but still went 11-2 overall with victories over five ranked teams. In the process they won the Pac-12 title and will play in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.

It will be Stanford’s third-straight BCS bowl game.
