No. 19 Butler vs. Evansville final score: Butler improves to 9-2 with victory

The Butler Bulldogs improved to 9-2 on the 2012 season with a 75-67 victory over Evansville on Saturday afternoon. Rotnei Clark and Andrew Smith scored 20 points apiece for the Bulldogs.

USA TODAY Sports

A week after upsetting No. 1 ranked Indiana, the Butler Bulldogs weren't nearly as sharp in their return to the court Saturday against Evansville. The No. 19 ranked Bulldogs had to hold on until the very end, for a narrow 75-67 win over the Aces.

For Butler, the victory was a hard-fought team effort, with five separate players scoring in double-figures. Rotnei Clarke led the Bulldogs with 20 points (including three 3-pointers), while Andrew Smith added 20 points and six rebounds as well. Roosevelt Jones, Kellen Dunham and Kameron Woods also scored in double-digits for Butler, which improved to 9-2 with the victory.

The win also marked Butler’s first time back on the court since their thrilling 88-86 overtime victory last Saturday over Indiana. At the time the Hoosiers were ranked No. 1 in the country, and their game against the Bulldogs proved to be their first loss of the season.

It was also Butler’s second win over a Top 10 opponent this year, after upsetting North Carolina in the Maui Invitational in November. The Tar Heels were ranked No. 9 in the country at the time.

Colt Ryan scored 25 points in a losing effort for Evansville. The Aces fell to 7-5 with the loss.
