Bengals vs. Chargers, Week 13: San Diego disappoints fans with second-half struggles

After holding a halftime lead, the San Diego Chargers couldn’t score in the second half and fell to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The San Diego Chargers appeared to be playing well in the first half, taking a 13-10 lead over the Cincinnati Bengals at the intermission. The second half, however, was a different story.

After completing nine-straight passes to start the game, Rivers couldn’t lead the offense to a score in the second half. On the final drive, Rivers threw an interception in the end zone and fumbled earlier in the contest.

The offensive struggles were difficult to watch for Bolts From The Blue:

Well, that settles it. The San Diego Chargers once again built up a lead at halftime and ended up losing the game due to offensive incompetence. Whatever is wrong with the offense this season seems to get much worse in the second half of games.

San Diego hardly used the running game to balance the play-calling with Rivers attempting 48 passes, compared to nine rushes for running back Ryan Matthews.

Defensively, the Chargers played well against the pass and intercepted quarterback Andy Dalton twice. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had more success in the ground game with 118 rushing yards on 25 carries.

San Diego has now lost four-straight games and is essentially out of the playoff hunt with a 4-8 record. At this point, fans are just hoping to see young players get more time on the field and develop for next season.
