Orioles interested in Mike Morse

The righty slugger could be the outfield power bat that Baltimore has been seeking.

Taking a break from dreaming on free-agent outfielder Josh Hamilton, the Baltimore Orioles have shown interest in acquiring corner infielder/outfielder Michael Morse from the Washington Nationals, reports FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi.

In addition to coveting the right-handed slugger's bat, the Orioles also reportedly like Morse's defensive flexibility. The big 30-year-old -- who amazingly came up in the Mariners' organization as a shortstop -- has the ability to play at all corners of the diamond. Morse spent most of his playing time in left and right fields for the Nats this past season, but he was the club's primary first baseman the year before.

Morse did not receive significant playing time until joining the Nats and rewarded the club by hitting .296/.345/.516 with 64 home runs over the past three seasons.

If Morse moves out of the nation's capital, Washington has plenty of corner depth to account for the slugger's loss. The club is still in talks to re-sign first baseman Adam LaRoche, and the recent acquisition of Denard Span allows Bryce Harper to move to left field, with Tyler Moore taking the role of fourth outfielder.
