Joe Blanton reportedly signs with Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have reportedly signed free-agent pitcher Joe Blanton to a deal worth $15 million over two years.

Free agent hurler Joe Blanton has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Angels for two years and $15 million, according to Jon Heyman. Jon Morosi adds that the deal includes a team option.

The 31-year-old Blanton will join the fourth team of his career, and third in the last five months. He was traded by the Phillies to the Dodgers in August, and spent the beginning of his career with the Oakland Athletics. He's proven himself a steady and reliable innings-eater over the course of his nine seasons in the majors, notching an ERA of 4.37 and topping 175 innings in six of the last seven years.

The addition of Blanton could have huge implications on the Angels' chances of re-signing free agent ace Zack Greinke. Jayson Stark surmises that the Blanton deal means the Angels are turning their attentions away from Greinke and on to multiple other needs. The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers are seen as front-runners for Greinke.
