Kate Upton -- accomplished equestrienne, noted Dougie teacher, burgeoning actress -- can add another title to her growing resume: 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue covergirl.

Upton, 19, is making her second appearance in the celebrated issue after being named Rookie of the Year in 2011. The announcement was made Monday evening when the cover for this year's issue was unveiled on a giant billboard outside the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York before Upton's appearance on Late Night With David Letterman.

The issue hit newsstands Tuesday, and it’s complemented by a host of digital offerings, including apps for iOS/Android phones and tablets.

“You will see innovation on every Swimsuit platform this year,” said Terry McDonell, Editor Time Inc. Sports Group. “The magazine tablet app showcases the highest levels of photography through scrolling-panoramic sequences, we created a new music section on SI.com and on your iPad and iPhone the 360ⅹ views of bodypaint will offer an entirely new perspective on Swimsuit.”

Some of the athletes featured in this year’s issue include Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin, LPGA golfer Natalie Gulbis and U.S. Women’s Soccer team member Alex Morgan. Some of the male athletes included are Chris Paul, Rafael Nadal and Michael Phelps.
