Bud Shootout Video: Jeff Gordon Flips His Car With Two Laps to Go

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Four major crashes marred Saturday night’s Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway. The last one was the most horrific as Jeff Gordon connected with Kyle Busch, sending the four-time Sprint Cup champion and Kurt Busch into the wall at over 190 mph. Gordon’s car flipped against the wall and rolled down the banking several times, eventually stopping upside down on the apron.

Gordon immediately dropped his window net, signaling to safety crews that he was okay. Gordon was slow to exit and told safety crews not to flip his car back up until he got out.

The crash also collected five-time champion Jimmie Johnson.

“I got a huge shot from Jimmie and every time I got to Kyle’s back bumper, he got out of control and he started to lose it,” Gordon said. “I went to go around him and two guys were on the outside of me and I collected them and turned me into the wall and then I was just along for the ride.

Gordon led three times for 16 laps and ultimately finished in 15th.

“We’ve got to be real careful with how we push and it’s definitely going to take some patience,” Gordon said. But I was having a blast out there. Our car was awesome. We had a car that could win this race and that’s got me so excited about tomorrow and next week.”

Gordon has had some scary accidents in his 20-year Sprint Cup career. Does this rank as his personal worst? Check out the video below and tell us in the comments section!
