NFL Combine: Cleveland Browns won’t hesitate on trading up in draft

On the same day reports surfaced the Cleveland Browns will be players for Matt Flynn, head coach Pat Shurmur didn't sound averse to trading up for Robert Griffin III.

Shurmur was the last coach to talk with the media at the NFL Combine Thursday afternoon and said the Browns wouldn’t “be hesitant at all” to trade picks four and 22 in the right scenario.

“I wouldn’t say we’re hesitant to do anything,” Shurmur said. “We’re excited about the fact that we’re going to make our team better with this draft. That’s the way we approach it. We’re not hesitant at all.

“We can just stand pat and take two really fine players, guys that we would hope to be starters for us. Having two first-round picks, you have flexibility if you want to do something.”

The most logical trade partner for Cleveland is the St. Louis Rams, who hold the No. 2 pick. As Adam Schefter of ESPN pointed out Thursday, the Rams are already in preliminary talks with teams to trade the pick. Schefter noted that along with the Browns, the Rams may be talking with the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks.

If not the Rams and the No. 2 spot, the Vikings may have the No. 3 pick on the trade block.

“We are definitely open to moving,” Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said Thursday. “We will look to take advantage and it will be very beneficial to our franchise.”
