Video: John King wins Daytona Truck Series race

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - We’re not sure if words are enough to describe the excitement that took place during the closing laps of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series NextEra Energy Resources 200 at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night.

So we posted the video below.

But when the dust settled - and there was a lot of it - John King was named the winner.

It took three overdrive finish attempts including one where King turned a race-leading Johnny Sauter into the wall coming to the white flag lap. King was named the race leader after a video review and held off a hard-charging Timothy Peters to complete a one-two Red Horse Racing sweep of Daytona.

King was a virtual unknown entering Speedweeks and admitted that he had only won twice in his late model racing career prior to signing with Red Horse Racing. Now he’s a winner on the biggest stage in motorsports. He’s won at Daytona.

“I’m a rookie - I’m not supposed to be here. This is unreal,” King said. “This Red Horse Racing team is unbelievable. From the owner to the tire guy - everyone does their job. This is a dream come true.

As for the accident with Sauter, King was sucked in by Sauter’s truck and couldn’t get off his bumper. That sent Sauter’s truck head first into the outside retaining wall, collecting several other trucks. King explained that the accident was not on purpose and that he just couldn’t lift.

“I apologize to him from the bottom of my heart. It wasn’t my intention at all,” King said.

Red Horse Racing is owned car by Thomas DeLoach. He put all three of his cars in the top-10. Peters finished second and Todd Bodine finished sixth.

“I can’t say enough about this race team,” Peters said. “It was an awesome night. These guys worked hard...and we have some momentum. We’re going to be a force to be reckoned with this year.”

A total of just 18 cars were running at the finish of the race. An equal number of 18 were eliminated by accidents or parts failure.
