As a junior at Ohio State, left tackle Mike Adams had the makings of a top 10 pick. Then he got suspended by the Buckeyes and his draft stock quickly dropped. It went back up at the Senior Bowl when he measured in at 6-foot-7 and had good practices.
The yo-yoing NFL Draft stock of Ohio State’s Mike Adams

Now at the NFL Combine, Adams’ stock appears to again be tumbling. It’s been a rough week for Adams that started out with a poor 19 repetitions in the 225-pound bench press. That led Mike Mayock of NFL Network to quip “that’s not acceptable for that position, not even close.”
Mayock has also questioned Adams’ work ethic, citing his two suspensions and the bench press number. And while the 40-yard dash is largely meaningless for offensive linemen, Adams’ times of 5.31 and 5.38 (unofficially) won’t help him either. On Thursday, Adams talked about his strengths and weaknesses, but didn’t mention his work ethic or stamina.
“I think my athleticism and blocking in space I think is definitely a strength,” Adams said. “I like to play through the whistle in the run game. I would say that my consistency with my technique in pass protection. Getting my hands a little bit too wide sometimes and oversetting are two things I definitely need to work on.”
Adams has one more chance to quickly bounce his stock back up. Ohio State holds its pro day workout on March 9.
