Pro days are all we have to distract ourselves from the mounting anticipation of NFL Free Agency, which opens up at 4 p.m. eastern time on Tuesday, March 13.
2012 Pro Day Schedule: Previewing this week’s pro days
This week features a handful of interesting pro days to keep an eye on. Among the top players on display this week are pass-rushers Vinny Curry and Bruce Irvin, wide receiver Marvin Jones of California and quarterbacks Brock Osweiler and Kirk Cousins.
After the jump, check out a complete list of this week’s pro days and some of the guys to keep an eye on.
Players to Watch:
Brock Osweiler, Quarterback, Arizona State - Brock Osweiler chose not to throw at the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, so all eyes will be on him at Arizona State’s pro day. His raw tools are among the best in this class, but he is considered to be a very raw prospect. A solid showing will cement his status as a second round pick.
Kirk Cousins, Quarterback, Michigan State - Another quarterback who will be jockeying for position in the second round is Kirk Cousins of Michigan State. A strong showing at a quarterback-thin senior bowl gave Cousins a boost heading into the pre-draft process. Let’s see if he can keep the momentum going this week.
Bruce Irvin, Defensive End, West Virignia - Workout warrior Bruce Irvin will put his amazing physical tools on display again this week at West Virginia’s pro day. He opened a lot of eyes with a blazing 4.5 second in the 40-yard dash. A similar showing could give Irvin an outside shot at the first round. More than likely, he will be firmly entrenched as a second round pick, though.
Vinny Curry, Defensive End/Outside Linebacker, Marshall - Staying in the state of West Virginia, Marshall’s pro day this week will feature possibly the best pure pass rusher in the entire draf tin Vinny Curry. Curry has been slowly climbing boards since his outstanding week in Mobile, Ala. at the Senior Bowl.
Marvin Jones, Wide Receiver, California - Thought by many to be a possession receiver, Marvin Jones flashed his speed at the combine, running a 4.46 in the 40. Jones is my favorite sleeper at the wide receiver position. He has outstanding body control, reliable hands and runs precise routes. Add a good workout to the mix, and there is no stopping this kid’s stock.
