After an aggressive attempt to land free agent quarterback Peyton Manning came up short, the Arizona Cardinals still have questions to answer about their quarterback situation, as faith in Kevin Kolb appears to be dwindling.
What will the Arizona Cardinals do at quarterback?
For the near future, however, it would appear that Arizona is stuck with the Kolb. They just paid him the bonus money he was due, and there may not be a better option out there.
Signing Matt Flynn would be a sideways move for this team, and I'm not sure Whisenhunt is thrilled with the idea of a raw first round quarterback such as Ryan Tannehill. Some have speculated that the Cardinals could be in play to trade up for Tannehill, but it doesn't make sense to me. Kolb has been far from great, and I don't envision him as a true franchise quarterback, but it's going to take more than Flynn or Tannehill to unseat him.
Peyton Manning has created a lot of awkward quarterback situations across the league. But the fact of the matter is signing Manning was a rare opportunity for teams to make a huge upgrade at quarterback. Arizona would have been crazy to not at least explore it. Now that they’ve struck out, it’s time to move on with what they have. Ryan Tannehill is not an acceptable consolation prize to Manning.
