While Morris Claiborne is the consensus top cornerback available in the 2012 NFL Draft, the battle for the No. 2 spot is completely up for grabs. Among those in the race are Dre Kirkpatrick of Alabama, Janoris Jenkins of Northern Alabama and Stephon Gilmore of South Carolina.
2012 NFL Draft: Dre Kirkpatrick scheduled to visit 10 NFL teams
Kirkpatrick, who did not shine in combine interviews, is already scheduled for visits with 10 NFL teams. The Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans are all among the teams bringing in the former Alabama cornerback, according to Scout.com.
Few question Kirkpatrick’s talent. He is a physical corner with the ability to jam receivers at the line and play strong run defense. However a January arrest for marijuana possession definitely raised concerns over Kirkpatrick’s ability to stay out of trouble. These visits will be instrumental for Kirkpatrick if he hopes to win the battle to be the second cornerback off the board in April.
