Whenever the Washington Capitals have been in a pinch, they can usually rely on Alex Ovechkin. That, however, has not been the case this season. Until now.
Capitals Vs. Red Wings: Alex Ovechkin Carries Caps To 5-3 Win
Ovechkin's two goals led the Caps to an important 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings Monday at Joe Louis Arena.
For the first time since Oct. 30, 2010, Ovechkin scored two power play goals in the same game, a feat he accomplished in the first period as Washington took a commanding 3-0 lead. Ovechkin now has five goals in his last four games after having five in his previous 13.
With the win, the Caps are now 2-2-0 during their pivotal five-game road trip as they maintain their hold on the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Ovechkin is doing what he needs to be doing: carrying his team on his back. Washington’s postseason hopes depend on it.
