This year I wrote the player rankings and evaluations for the USA Today 2012 NFL Draft magazine. It’s on newsstands now and available online here. Leading up to the draft, I’ll be reprinting some of my quick reports here.

Desmond Wynn, Rutgers
Height: 6’5 3/8, Weight: 305 pounds

Strengths: A tall, athletic specimen of a guard with good length and wide shoulders. Plays with a lot of quickness and is an exceptional help blocker. Helped neutralize North Carolina’s Quinton Coples in 2011. Strong and physical in the run game. Changes direction well. Could provide depth at tackle or guard. Started 27 games (24 at left guard). All-Big East second team in 2011.

Weaknesses: May be a better backup tackle than a guard because he struggles to stay low in his stance. Needs to add more functional strength. Injury history is a concern. Has had knee and shoulder issues during his college career.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
