Andrew Luck and Stanford highlight busy pro day schedule

If you earmarked one day this month as the day for pro days, it is today. (That’s right, “day” used four times in a single sentence) From NFL.com, here are the schools scheduled for today:

Boise State, East Carolina, LSU, Maine, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Stanford, Tennessee-Chattanooga

Tim Tebow has been traded. The penalties for the New Orleans Saints have been dished out. Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn signed. Free agency in general is winding down. The 2012 NFL Draft is finally the front and center storyline in the NFL.

The obvious star of today's pro days will be Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. Given all of the offseason activity and how well Robert Griffin III worked out Wednesday, he's sort of become the forgotten man. Now people like NFL Draft legend Gil Brandt and ESPN's Merrill Hoge and KC Joyner said they would either pick RG3 first overall or could see him going that highly. Friendly reminder: Andrew Luck is a surefire, elite quarterback prospect. He's not a freak athlete like Griffin, but is as good as the plaudits he receives.

He's not the only Stanford player who will turn heads today. Tight end Coby Fleener could be a star today. An athletic marvel at 6-foot-6, Fleener could push himself atop tight end rankings with a good showing today. Don't forget, Fleener missed the Senior Bowl and sat out NFL Combine workouts because of an ankle injury suffered in Stanford's bowl game. Cardinal offensive linemen David DeCastro and Jon Martin will also bring out the scouts. Martin didn't do timing drills at the Combine due to illness.

Plenty of NFL personnel members will also be at LSU. Defensive tackle Michael Brockers and cornerback Morris Claiborne will be the star attractions. Brockers largely had a poor Combine showing and may be looking to rebound today. Of intrigue today will be the performance of quarterback Jarrett Lee, who wasn't invited to the Combine.

Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe is likely to stand by his Combine numbers, so don't expect much news out of his pro day.

Tennessee-Chattanooga quarterback B.J. Coleman should garner a lot of attention today. He has prototypical size for a quarterback and could be an excellent developmental potential for a team like the Denver Broncos.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.
