2012 NFL Draft: What’s the best landing spot for Luke Kuechly?

Positional value can be a cruel thing. Few players are better at their position than Boston College inside linebacker Luke Kuechly. Unfortunately, inside linebackers do not present much positional value, which either means that the position does not make a crucial impact on a game or that productive players can be found at that position after the first day of the draft.

Kuechly is doing his best to overcome that, however. This week, he took another step with an excellent performance at Boston College’s pro day, according to Boston.com. After easing concerns about his athleticism at the combine with a 4.50 40-yard dash, Kuechly looked solid in the positional drills at his pro day.

By all accounts, Kuechly is a first-round prospect. He earned that on the field this fall, though that’s not to discredit his performance in the pre-draft process. But where in the first round will he fall?

The Philadelphia Eagles have been a popular landing spot in spots, but the recent acquisition of DeMeco Ryans makes that unlikely. Kuechly may not be a slam dunk, top-15 prospect, but a team like the Seahawks or Cardinals could make sense.

But it's also a possibility Kuechly could fall into the second half of the first round. If that's the case, both the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals have visited with the former Eagle so far. Given the positional value of inside linebacker, it shouldn't be a shock if he is available to one of those teams at pick 20 or 21.

Kuechly is doing everything right, but his position may hold him back on draft day.
