2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 6
With the sixth pick in the 2012 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select Alabama running back Trent Richardson.
Ryan Van Bibber from Turf Show Times breaks the choice down and I respond to it after the jump. For more on the Rams, make sure to check out TurfShowTimes.com.
Ryan Van Bibber explains: The Rams desperately need skill players on offense. Blackmon is a better fit given the need at receiver, but Richardson is a superior talent. He compares well with Steven Jackson, who has since lost his speed and explosiveness as a result of being leaned on so heavily in the last five years. Richardson can be a feature back or a one-two punch with Jackson. The offense can use the pairing to create mismatches and draw the attention of defenses, which would ideally free up some space on the field for their receivers.

Dan Kadar responds: This is the risk the Rams took trading out of the No. 2 pick. Had they kept it, they could choose between Blackmon and Southern California left tackle Matt Kalil. Line and receiving help would benefit the Rams more than Richardson. That's not to say this is a bad pick, however. There have already been reports the Rams like Richardson and he's an incredible talent. He would immediately give the team the best running back group in the NFL and prolong Jackson's career. It would also help the Rams ease the pressure off quarterback Sam Bradford while the team uses its extra picks to surround him with talent.
