2012 NFL Draft: Colts to meet with Andrew Luck, not Robert Griffin III

Since the conclusion of the 2011 NFL Draft, Andrew Luck has been the consensus No. 1 choice in nearly everyone's mock draft. Robert Griffin III won't go down without a fight, however. The Heisman Trophy winner continues to raise his stock in the weeks heading up to the NFL Draft, and some have even speculated that he has a chance to be the first player taken in April.

But that's foolish. I'll spare you the scouting report on the two and why the Colts need to take Luck and instead point you to the fact that Indianapolis will meet with Luck prior to the draft but not Griffin III, according to ESPN. While it's no surprise to anyone that the Colts are doing their due diligence with Luck, one may have expected Indy to bring in RG3 in for a visit as well. But with a limited number of visits among other reasons, the Colts won't meet with the former Baylor star.

“Circumstances didn’t allow us to do anything private with him (Griffin) so we did the usual pro day,” Colts general manager Ryan Grigson told ESPN.

In addition to the news about the visits, ESPN is also reporting that Indianapolis won’t begin to negotiate a contract with whomever they choose to make their new quarterback until after the draft. In years past, teams have attempted to hammer out a contract with the first overall pick, especially when there is little disagreement over the pick.

“We’re going to do it the old fashioned way,” Grigson told ESPN.
