2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 1, Pick 14

The SB Nation two-round NFL mock draft continues along with each lead NFL team blogger making the pick for their team. Up now is the Dallas Cowboys with the No. 14 overall pick.

With the 14th pick in the 2012 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Stanford guard David DeCastro.

Dave Halprin, site editor for Blogging the Boys, breaks down the choice and I respond after the jump. For the latest on the Cowboys, make sure to check out BloggingTheBoys.com.

Dave Halprin explains: The Cowboys interior offensive line was a problem last season, and with the release of Kyle Kosier at guard last week, the position is truly in flux. Dallas did pick up a couple of veteran guards in free agency, but the future of the position is still in question. Enter David DeCastro, who many scouts have said is the best guard prospect to come along since Steve Hutchinson. He’s got every skill you need and is a fierce run-blocker. Blessed with agile feet, he’s extremely good on the move, and in the Cowboys run-blocking scheme the guards are often asked to pull. DeCastro is projected as the kind of player you pencil into the starting lineup for the next decade. Dallas picked up their tackle of the future last year with Tyron Smith, they could do the same at guard this year with David DeCastro.

Dan Kadar reacts: This would be a great pickup for the Cowboys. Regardless of their possible want to add even more talent to the secondary or another pass rusher, DeCastro is the slam dunk choice if he's available. He perfectly fits the mold of Cowboys linemen. He's a powerful blocker with a nasty disposition. The impact DeCastro will have is immediately in the run game. He makes relying on DeMarco Murray slightly less of a risk.
