Capitals Vs. Bruins: Caps Blow It, Come Back To Win 3-2 In Shootout

The Washington Capitals wanted to give this one away.

Thursday against the Boston Bruins, the Caps, who can ill afford to lose another game as they cling to their playoff lives, had a 2-0 lead with five minutes left, but the Bruins tied it in short order to send the game into overtime.

A point would not suffice. Washington needed two. Alexander Semin had to score to keep the game going and he did. Brooks Laich followed Michal Neuvirth's save on Rich Peverly with the game-winner in a 3-2 shootout victory.

The Caps may have been done with a loss, but a win keeps them marching forward and picks them up after a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday. Washington will now hope Buffalo loses Friday to the Pittsburgh Penguins to get things back on track.

I bet the Caps felt so dirty even thinking about that possibility.
