Ryan Leaf’s Arrest May Overturn Probation

Ryan Leaf’s arrest in Montana for burglary and drug possession charges may overturn a probation agreement that he reached with Texas prosecutors in 2009 for similar charges.

Ryan Leaf’s latest arrest on Friday night may have implications on the terms of his probation stemming from an arrest in Texas in 2009. In 2008, when Leaf was coaching at West Texas A&M, an investigation uncovered that the former Washington State standout had acquired nearly 1,000 pain pills from local pharmacies in about an eight-month span. He was also accused of burglarizing a player’s home and in 2009, and he reached a probation plea agreement with Texas prosecutors that would run for 10 years. This arrest in his hometown of Great Falls, Montana may overturn that probation agreement.

Via the Associated Press:

Friday’s arrest also raises the question of whether his arrest means the 10-year probation plea agreement he negotiated with Texas prosecutors stemming from drug and burglary charges in 2009 will be revoked.

James Farren, the Randall County district attorney who negotiated the 2010 plea agreement, did not immediately return a text message seeking comment on Leaf’s arrest in Montana.

The details of the latest arrest for burglary and drug-possession are still murky, but Leaf did release a statement addressing the latest run-in with the law.
