Rockies’ Alex White Could Be Charged With ‘Extreme DUI’

The Rockies’ righthander could be in even more legal trouble than initially reported.

When you first read a headline like that, your first inclination is to laugh because you think, “That’s an extreme sport?”

It is, clearly, not a laughing matter. Rockies pitcher Alex White was stopped recently while driving in Scottsdale, Arizona, and charged with DUI. Troy Renck explains what "extreme DUI" means:

A breath test administered after White was pulled over Saturday night measured his blood-alcohol content at 0.174 percent, according to the arrest report. If blood tests confirm the results of the roadside breath test, White will be charged with extreme DUI, a police spokesman said.
Under Arizona law, the term “extreme DUI” is being used for anything over 0.15. White told Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd that he had two drinks before his arrest.

Alex White is 23 and was acquired by the Rockies from the Indians in the multi-player deal that sent Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland last July 30. Despite posting an unsightly 8.42 ERA and 1.76 WHIP after the trade, he was expected to compete for a spot in the Rockies' rotation. He's scheduled to throw for the Rockies Tuesday afternoon.
