Redskins Plan ‘Aggressive’ Run At Peyton Manning

The Indianapolis Colts have done what we all knew they eventually would -- release Peyton Manning. The iconic Indianapolis quarterback now becomes a free agent, perhaps the most sought after free agent in NFL history.

The next question is: where does Manning play next?

You could point to a number of teams because, let’s be honest, one of the greatest quarterbacks in history fits on just about every team. Manning will be wanted by a lot of teams.

One of the teams that makes a lot of sense is the Washington Redskins and, according to a report from the Washington Post, the Redskins plans to make an “aggressive” run at Manning.

Several people familiar with the Redskins’ plans said the team is comfortable with the risks associated with signing Manning, who missed all of last season with the Colts after undergoing a series of neck surgeries. The team will pursue him intently, they said. Redskins officials declined to comment.

They currently have no quarterback of the future on the roster and Mike Shanahan once had a lot of success with an older quarterback by the name of John Elway. They have the cap space to afford him and many think they’ll be pursuing him.

The problem with Washington, at least one I see, is that they play in the same division as Peyton’s brother, Eli, and the New York Giants. Would he really want to play against his brother twice a year? Some wonder if he would. Manning has also played his entire career in Indianapolis, which is a far cry from the bright lights of Washington D.C. Some wonder if he would prefer a smaller city, like Indianapolis.

Manning will have plenty of options in free agency. Some team is going to instantly become a Super Bowl contender.
