Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and superstar quarterback Peyton Manning held an emotional press conference on Wednesday to announce that the team and their most recognizable player will be amicably parting ways after 14 seasons together.

Irsay explained the situation and the reasoning behind the Colts’ decision:

As a franchise with the salary cap, we’re rebuilding and we’re definitely a few years away. I want to see him come back and play great. There’s no question about it. It’s just here, you know, just like in 2001 when he was completely healthy and everything else and we didn’t have everything to surround him, I want that opportunity for him as well to succeed at the end of his career.

Manning will certainly receive any number of opportunities to succeed. Many NFL teams are rumored to be interested in pursuing the new free agent.
