Pass rush: One of the biggest strengths for Cox is his versatility to play just about anywhere along the line and generate a blitz. He gets off the line with ease and knows how to slip between multiple blockers. Predominantly uses a bull rush, though, to get pressure. Could hold up at end, but he's not as a speed-rushing, corner-turning end. Production didn't match his ability. Four of his 4.5 sacks in 2011 came in two games. Adding secondary moves to his arsenal will greatly help his pass rush.
Pursuit/quickness: Cox has a nice burst off the line and closes better than most defensive tackles. Regarded as a high motor player. Knows when to ratchet his burst down to fake out linemen.

Run defend: Doesn’t hold up particularly well against double teams. Will need to be paired with a nose tackle on the inside. Although Cox flashes good natural power, he’ll need to add more strength to hold up against the NFL run game. Doesn’t maintain leverage consistently because he gets high in his stance.
Strength/tackling: Is naturally strong enough to hold his spot one-on-one and get penetration. If Cox goes to a 4-3 team as a tackle, he may need to get stronger in his base. His upper body, though, is strong. That aids his tackling ability.
Technique: Will get upright in his stance when he’s working straight ahead. Was lined up at end but mostly played tackle directly over the guard. Has active hands, which he can take advantage of with his long arms.
Final word: Cox, a three-year starter for Mississippi State, is arguably the best one-gap defensive tackle in this year’s draft. He finished the 2011 season with 56 tackles with 14.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. That earned him first-team All-SEC honors. Cox compares favorably to Jason Jones of the Seattle Seahawks.
