5’10, 190 pounds | Wide receiver | Baylor
Body control: Wright has natural instincts and good body control to make the acrobatic catch. He can adjust well to off target passes shows good concentration and has good hand-eye coordination to pluck the ball from the air then getting feet inbounds especially along the sidelines. He has very good athleticism, playing strength, and balance to keep on his feet when pressed by the cornerback. He catches the ball well over either shoulder on the deep throws and shows good hand-eye coordination.
Hands: He has good hands, but they are a little small, and catches the ball cleanly from the air keeping it from getting into his body. He may have troubles early in his career with drops because of his smallish hands and lack of concentration on a consistent basis.
Release: He has a quick first step that is explosive and the playing speed to get by the cornerback. He is small in size and may have trouble getting a clean release against the big physical man coverage cornerbacks in the NFL. He needs to learn better hand techniques and get stronger in his upper body to combat the man to man press cornerbacks so that they can’t reroute or jam him easily.
Route running: Wright runs good routes and usually finds the open against zone defenses. He is effective anywhere he lines up on the field and gives his QB a nice target to make the completion. He has the playing speed to get deep and get behind the defense consistently. He has shown the toughness to run precise routes when lining up in the slot and is a downfield speed threat attacking the safeties against a zone defense.
Size: Wright’s body build is small by today’s NFL wide receiver standards, but plays with toughness and the aggressive attitude to be a very good NFL wide receiver. He will need to learn how to get open in the red zone area against the bigger physical cornerbacks by running precise routes. He will not win many jump ball situations instead will have to rely on his foot quickness and timing of the pass from the QB.
Speed: He has shown on film the ability to separate and get deep downfield and behind the defense on a consistent basis using his very good foot quickness, agility, and burst. He had a lot of big plays lining up in the slot and I feel that will be the ideal place to utilize his talents in the NFL. He can produce yards after the catch and can maintain his balance after taking a big hit.
Final word: Wright while at Baylor, was known for his ability to get separation, his speed, and burst to consistently get open downfield. He had a very productive senior season, playing with 2012 Heisman Trophy winner QB Robert Griffin III, hauling in 101 receptions, 1,572 yards, and 13 touchdowns. Overall, he is a competitive, tough, and smart football player who sometimes wears his emotions on his sleeve. Wright's ability to get consistent separation with his speed and burst will likely get him drafted in the first round. He would be an ideal fit with the Houston Texans playing alongside of Andre Johnson.
