This year I wrote the player rankings and evaluations for the USA Today 2012 NFL Draft magazine. It’s on newsstands now and available online here. Leading up to the draft, I’ll be reprinting some of my quick reports here.

Terrance Ganaway, Baylor
Ht: 6'0, Wt: 241 pounds

Strengths: A powerful back who would be best-suited as part of a duo with a speed back. Will be an asset in short-yardage situations if he keeps his pad level low. Has the endurance to carry a big load. Solid speed for a big back. Good forward lean on contact. Improved as a pass catcher in 2011.

Weaknesses: Average acceleration and needs some open field to get up to top speed. Tries to run laterally too much and doesn’t have the agility to do so. Gets high in his pads, which negates his natural power. Is limited in what he’ll be able to bring to the NFL. In other words, Ganaway won’t be much help on special teams and is limited in the pass game.

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
