2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 46

The SB Nation two-round NFL mock draft continues along with each lead NFL team blogger making the pick for their team. We continue the second round with the Philadelphia Eagles and pick No. 46.

With the 46th pick in the 2012 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Montana cornerback Trumaine Johnson.

JasonB, site manager for Bleeding Green Nation, breaks down the choice and I respond after the jump. For the latest on the Eagles, make sure to check out BleedingGreenNation.com.

JasonB explains: At 6-2, 200 pounds with a big 33 ¼ wingspan, Johnson has rare size and strength for a corner, which will be important as WRs get bigger and stronger not just in the NFC East, but all around the NFL. And while a knock against him is that he didn’t play elite competition in the Big Sky conference, he did dominate the competition he faced. What he lacks in top end speed, he makes up for with good ball skills and a polish that’s rarely seen from smaller school prospects.

Dan Kadar responds: At this point, there are some players really dropping. While it's a little understandable on the running backs given the value of the position, the Eagles could get a great value picking Clemson defensive tackle Brandon Thompson here. With so much talent at cornerback (Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Asante Samuel), it would be difficult to find snaps for Johnson. The Eagles also have Curtis Marsh coming back from injury, and he fits the same mold. Johnson is a good player, and this is about where he'll come off the board. But the Eagles may not be the best place for him.
