This year I wrote the player rankings and evaluations for the USA Today 2012 NFL Draft magazine. It’s on newsstands now and available online here. Leading up to the draft, I’ll be reprinting some of my quick reports here.
Marvin McNutt 2012 NFL Draft quick report

Marvin McNutt, Iowa
Height: 6’2, Weight: 215 pounds
Strengths: Knows how to use his body to get open in jump ball situations. Smooth in and out of his breaks. Plays with a lot of toughness. McNutt is a smart route runner who gets open because he doesn’t waste a step. Good size. Good blocker.
Weaknesses: Doesn’t have great speed and will struggle in the vertical passing game. Was largely shut down by the better corners he faced in 2011, including Oklahoma’s Jamell Fleming and Nebraska’s Alfonzo Dennard. Has very little burst in his game.
Combine quotable: (On his speed) I have enough at the college level. When you start playing with faster people, you start getting faster. As well, breakaway speed isn’t the No. 1 key. It’s about technique, and about getting open, and I believe I have that.
