2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 50
With the 50th pick in the SB Nation NFL writer’s mock draft, the Chicago Bears select Clemson defensive tackle Brandon Thompson.
Dane Noble of WindyCityGridiron.com made the pick. I offer some analysis of it after the jump.
Analysis: In this mock draft scenario, Thompson is far and away the best player available. He actually fills a need for the Bears as well. When most look at the Bears, they point to wide receiver, pass rusher and offensive line. But their interior defensive linemen are largely average. Henry Melton is a solid player and Stephen Paea has potential, but missed time last season with injury. A player like Thompson could be lined up at either tackle spot and likely start as a rookie for the Bears. Marshall's Vinny Curry could have been a good choice as well, but Thompson is a big-time talent.
