This year I wrote the player rankings and evaluations for the USA Today 2012 NFL Draft magazine. It’s on newsstands now and available online here. Leading up to the draft, I’ll be reprinting some of my quick reports here.
Orson Charles 2012 NFL Draft quick report

Orson Charles, Georgia
Height: 6'2 1/2, Weight: 251 pounds
Strengths: While Charles splits out to the slot, he plays with his hand down more than most college tight ends. Is a good receiver who has the speed to separate after the catch. Can pick apart zone coverage.
Weaknesses: Looks as much like a powerful wide receiver as he does a tight end. Will drop catchable throws. Needs to be used in the right situation, much like Aaron Hernandez of the Patriots or Dustin Kellar of the Jets.
Combine quotable: (On his strengths) I feel like my strengths are stretching the field as far as being in the box, if the coach asked me to block I blocked. I have film of doing it, going against a linebacker one-on-one and stretching the field. As of right now I don’t think I have to work on anything right now, but at the next level I have to work on going in and out of my breaks. I have to work on my technique on blocking and getting in and out of my breaks.
