While most of his teammates have struggled this month, Diamondbacks center fielder Chris Young has been killing the ball, hitting .410/.500/.897 in his first 11 games. Young's bid for stardom will be delayed, though, as he'll miss some time after crashing into the wall Tuesday night while chasing a drive by Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have selected the contract of infielder Cody Ransom from Triple-A Reno and placed outfielder Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder contusion, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.
You might wonder why the Diamondbacks would replace an every-day center fielder with a utility infielder.
Wonder no more; earlier Wednesday, the Diamondbacks DL'd utility infielder Geoff Blum and called up outfielder A.J. Pollock, one of the franchise's top prospects.
Pollock, the Diamondbacks’ first-round draft pick in 2009, was rated this spring as the club’s No. 5 prospect, and he -- like Chris Young with the big club -- has gotten off to a great start. According to Baseball America, “Though some scouts see him as a fourth outfielder because he isn’t loaded with plus tools, the Diamondbacks envision him becoming a solid regular.”
He figures to serve as a fourth outfielder for now, with Gerardo Parra going from fourth outfielder to regular center fielder. However, with Justin Upton gimpy and Jason Kubel struggling, Pollock should get some chances to play.
