Terry Francona Reverses HImself, Will Attend Fenway Anniversary

Remember last week, when Terry Francona wasn’t going to join the big 100th Anniversary celebration at Fenway Park this Friday, despite entreaties from both John Henry and Larry Lucchino?

Well, forget that. From ESPNBoston.com:

Former Boston Red Sox manager and current ESPN analyst Terry Francona has changed his mind and says he will be attending the Red Sox’s 100th anniversary celebration of Fenway Park on Friday afternoon.

--snip--

Francona told ESPN on Wednesday that he believes he owes it to the fans to show up.

That’s Terry Francona for you, always thinking of the fans.

We kid Terry Francona because we love him. He’s pretty obviously going because he doesn’t want to miss a chance to hobnob with a bunch of old baseball people and maybe get a long standing ovation. But he’d look pretty silly if he said he changed his mind for himself. So mentioning the fans is probably the best way to save face.

Eventually, nobody’s going to care why he showed up. Everybody’s just going to be glad he did.
