2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 55

The SB Nation two-round NFL mock draft continues along with each lead NFL team blogger making the pick for their team. We continue the second round with the Atlanta Falcons and the No. 55 pick.

Dave Choate explains: Honestly, I wanted to go with Kelechi Osemele, Vinny Curry, Brandon Thompson or Dwayne Allen here. All four went off the board in rapid succession right in front of me, so I consider this somewhat of a worst-case scenario for the Falcons.

The consolation prize is pretty darn good, though. Wilson is a versatile, potent running back who can carry the rock with alacrity and catch passes with poise. The Falcons have been missing a truly three dimensional, starting-caliber back since Warrick Dunn hit the twilight of his career, and Wilson would give their already dynamic offense a huge boost. Pair him with mighty mite back Jacquizz Rodgers and still valuable battering ram Michael Turner in 2012 and watch the fireworks. By 2013, when Turner’s contract is up, he could be the new feature back.

Dan Kadar responds: The sad circumstance of trading away an extra first-round pick for Julio Jones is that you miss out on a crapshoot of a pick. What's that? That's still a great trade for the Falcons, regardless of how it may bone their 2012 draft? It sure is. Look at it this way as well: With Wilson, the Falcons can finally move on from having a Virginia Tech player who did dumb stuff off the field to one who wore ties to class. Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi, Tech, Tech, VPI indeed. Good pick. Michael Turner turns the doomed 30 this year. He may have run for more than 1,300 yards in 2011, but it's scientific fact that his career will be on the downturn and Wilson can step in. Wilson isn't just a scat back, however terrible he looked here. Wilson had more than 900 yards after contact in 2011 and is plenty powerful enough to shed tacklers.
