Cam Johnson 2012 NFL Draft quick report

Strengths: Gets off the line of scrimmage with ease and explosiveness. When he hustles, Johnson takes proper angles to the ball carrier and can close in a hurry. Gets off blocks well, but can bull rush as well. Enters the NFL with the experience of playing in multiple schemes at Virginia.
Weaknesses: Struggles when working in space and doesn’t redirect smoothly. Most likely isn’t fluid enough to move to linebacker. Motor runs hot and cold and he’s never been a feared sack artist. Gets high in his stance when working around the edge.
Combine quotable: Run defense is definitely an important part of the game. It’s a little different in college because you usually have teams that want to run on first and second and third (down). But at this level, teams pass on any down, so there’s definitely more emphasis on the pass rush. But playing the run well is definitely important.
